    12+ yrs: 2 caps, 3x/day.
If your child cannot swallow pills, Colostrum powder works very well and tastes good.  Just open the capsules and pour them onto a spoon or mix them in some water or food.

A special note for Breast Feeding Infants: If an infant is breastfeeding, and has an infection, we have the mother take the full adult dosage and the infant will receive support through the mother’s milk.  I have used this method with mom’s for many years, including my own children and it is quite effective.

Vitamin D and Children

A recent research project looked at supplemental Vitamin D3 dosing in infants, comparing infants who took 400 IU vs. 1,200 IU daily.

Those taking 1,200 IU per day experienced significant benefits when compared to the 400 IU group, with 45% lower rates of new infections.  For infants that did come down with the flu, the group on the higher dose Vit. D had shorter durations of fever, coughing and wheezing.

Additionally, the Vitamin D Council recommends 1,000 – 2,000 IU’s of Vitamin D for children.  I suggest 1,000 for children from 3 months – 8 years with occasional short-term amounts increasing to 2,000 IU for a few weeks at a time. Over 8 years I would be comfortable with 2,000 IU on a daily basis.
